Wild bear, stray dogs attack, kill one dozen sheep, goats in Sopore
Sopore, Nov 12 (KNO): At least one dozen sheep and goats were killed in an attack by wild bear and stray dogs in a mountainous area of Sopore in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district in the last two days.
According to the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), one dozen sheep, goats and a cow belonging to Ghulam Nabi Ganai and Abdul Malik Dar of Muqam Shaheed Mir Sopore were killed in an attack by a group of stray dogs and a wild bear in last two days.
“The sheep and goats were killed during the night by the wild animals. I didn’t even hear any noise when they were attacked,” said owner of Sheep, Ghulam Nabi Ganaie.
Ganai said they had repeatedly informed the wild life and Animal husbandry departments about the movement of wild animals in the area, but no action was taken.
The residents later appealed the administration headed by the Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha and district administration to look into the matter and depute the officials to assess the losses and subsequently provide compensation to the owners—(KNO)
