Security forces install lights, Cordon layers tightened to prevent militants from fleeing, say officials

Shopian, Oct 06 (KNO): An encounter is underway between security forces and militants in Sugan village of Zainapora area in South Kashmir’s Shopian district, police officials said.

They said that acting on a specific lead about the presence of militants in Sugan area, joint teams of Police, Army and CRPF laid a siege. “When forces zeroed in on a suspected spot, the hiding militants opened indiscriminate firing triggering a gunfight,” the officials told news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO).

They said heavy volume of fire is being exchanged by the militants and forces. “We have installed lights in view of the dark and the operation may remain on a hold for the night. Cordon layers will be tightened to ensure militants don’t flee,” a police official said. Official sources said that firing stopped on both sides at 8 pm—(KNO)
