Shopian killing: Police register murder case against army
Jammu and Kashmir Police filed a case against the army unit on murder and ‘attempt to murder’ charges over the killing of two civilians in south Kashmir’s Shopian district on Saturday.
According to the FIR filed by the police, the charges of murder and ‘attempt to murder’ have been invoked against the army.
The FIR has been registered under sections 302 (murder), 307 (attempt to murder) and 336 (endangering life).
Jammu and Kashmir government has also ordered a magisterial probe into the killing of two youth – Javed Ahmad Bhat and Suhail Javed Lone – in army firing in Ganowpora yesterday.
Army has claimed that they opened fire in “self-defence” after a “mob tried to lynch an officer” during protests.
