Kashmir: SRO for regularization of daily wagers to come out in a week: Drabu
The finance minister on Tuesday said that the government within five to seven working days is issuing the SRO related to the regularisation of about 60 thousand daily wagers and casual labourers working in various departments in Jammu and Kashmir.
“The cabinet has already approved the road map for the regularisation of the daily wagers in Jammu and Kashmir. It is now the SRO that is being issued by the government within the time span of five to seven working days,” finance minister Haseeb Drabu told KNS.
He added that once the order is issued, it will be sent to all the departments across the state wherein daily wagers are working, for its implementation.
On October 23, this year, the state cabinet under the chairpersonship of Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti accepted the report of the high level committee headed by the Chief Secretary laying out a roadmap for absorption/regularization of Casual/Seasonal Labourers/ Daily Rated Workers so as to ensure sustainable livelihood to thousands of persons and engagements which were made from time to time.
The cabinet at that time had asked the Finance Department to workout concrete measures to operationalize the roadmap to meet the long-standing demand of such engaged persons.
As per the estimates, there are at present 61000 daily wagers engaged in different government departments. Most of them have served the departments for more than 20 years.
In the past, these daily wagers organized hundreds of protests and hunger strikes from 2009, demanding framing of regularization policy. Most of them said that they were forced to take to streets after successive government ignored their plight. (
