Hizb insurgent killed as gunfight rages in forests of Kashmir’s Tral
A local insurgent was killed after government forces who had launched a search operation in a forest area in Jammu and Kashmir’s Tral excheanged fire with a group of militants on Monday, sources told
Sources said units of army, police’s special operation group and paramilitary central reserve police force were engaged in an exchange of fire with insurgents in Gulshanpur forest in which a militant Adil Chopan was killed. Chopan, a resident of Lurao in Pulwom district’s Tral, was with the Hizbul Mujahideen and had joined the group in March this year. “Acting on a specific information a joint team of army’s 42 RR, special operations group and CRPF cordoned off Chopan Mohalla following a specific input about the presence of some militants,” a police officer told a local news agency. As the joint team of forces intensified the searches, the hiding militants opened fire triggering off an encounter. Adil Chopan had managed to flee from an encounter in which Hizb commander Sabzar Bhat was killed in May this year, sources told Kashmir Dispatch. Sources added that government forces had inputs about the presence of 4-5 militants in the area. Last reports reaching Kashmir Dispatch said that the exchange of fire had stopped, but an intense search operation was underway in the dense woods.
