Shutdown, restrictions in Kashmir
Authorities imposed restrictions in parts of Srinagar city on Monday to prevent protests called by the separatists against growing incidents of braid chopping in the Kashmir Valley.
According to the police, restrictions were imposed in the areas of Khanyar, Rainawari, Nowhatta, M.R. Gunj, Safa Kadal, Maisuma and Kralkhud.
Shops, public transport and educational institutes remained closed here and also in other major cities and towns of the valley.
Private transport, however, moved normally at places where restrictions were not imposed.
Dozens of incidents of braid chopping have been reported from different parts of the Valley during the last one month but nobody has been arrested.
Joint Resistance Leadership of Syed Ali Geelani, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and Yasin Malik has called for strike today to protests against the braid chopping incidents.
