Mehbooba Mufti in Kupwara
SRINAGAR: Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti has reached Kupwara to spend a day with the people. This is part of the outreach that her office has launched recently. Her first destination was Pulwama where she had an overnight stay.
Officials accompanying the Chief Minister said the people with diverse problems have assembled and she is meeting them individually. She is also passing orders on the spot. “The issues, so far, have come about governance mostly about roads, electricity, certain defunct schemes and water supply,” one official said.
Ms Mufti is accompanied by Abdul Haq Khan, law minister and Lolab MLA besides the principal secretary and the personal staff. Authorities have pitched a big tent to accommodate the people coming with grievances.
Given the Chief Minister’s visit, the entire north Kashmir belt is witnessing a heightened security situation. There are more deployments on the roads and all the vital installations are under tight guard. The security grid has increased the petrol to ensure the visit passed peacefully.
Earlier in the day, however, a grenade explosion took place in Sopore in which four persons including civilians were injured. In neighbouring Handwara, some people attempting looting the State Bank of India ATM last night. However, the police foiled the attempt.
