A day after BJP President Amit Shah attacked former J&K Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti in Jammu, she has hit back on Twitter. In a series of tweets, Mehbooba claimed that she was taking steps as per agreement reached between PDP and BJP before the alliance was sealed. Taking a strong stance, Mehbooba has even asked BJP about what they are going to do about the leader who threatened journalists on Saturday.

Even when PDP and BJP decided to split their alliance earlier this week, the two parties didn’t exactly attack each other, leaving doors for future rapprochement open. But now it seems the gloves are truly off.

Mehbooba Mufti said on Twitter, ” Many false charges levelled against us by our former allies. Our commitment to the Agenda of Alliance, co-authored by Ram Madhav & endorsed by senior leaders like Rajnath Ji never wavered. It is sad to see them disown their own initiative & label it a ‘soft approach.” She mentioned, ” Status quo on Article 370, dialogue with Pakistan & Hurriyat were a part of AoA. Encouraging dialogue, withdrawing cases against stonepelters & the unilateral ceasefire were much needed measures to restore confidence on the ground. This was recognized & endorsed by BJP”.

Regarding Ram Madhav’s charges that Mehbooba government has discriminated against Jammu and Ladakh, former CM said, ” Allegations of discrimination against Jammu & Ladakh have no basis in reality. Yes, the valley has been in turmoil for a long time & the floods of 2014 were a setback, therefore needed focused attention. But that does not mean that there was any less development elsewhere.”

Trying to put the onus on BJP, Mehbooba said, ” Results on the ground for all to see. If anything they should review the performance of their own ministers, who largely represented the Jammu region if there were any such concerns, none among them either at state or central level talked about it during the last 3 years.”

First time properly outlining steps taken away by her post the Kathua rape and murder case, Mehbooba said, ”  Not handing over the Rasana rape & murder case to CBI,getting the pro rapist ministers removed & also issuing orders not to harass the Gujjar & Bakarwal community in the guise of anti-encroachment drives were my duties as CM to provide a sense of security to both communities.”

Finally Mehbooba lashed out at BJP for not acting against MLA Chaudhary Lal Singh who virtually threatened journalists on Saturday. Mehbooba said,” After expressing concern about freedom of expression in J&K following Shujaat’s murder, their MLA, notorious & even punished for his role in the aftermath of the unfortunate Kathua case still threatens journalists belonging to the valley,so what are they going to do about him?”

This is in connection with Ram Madhav’s words while dumping PDP that freedom of speech has been curtailed in the vallley.  On his maiden ‘Mission Jammu and Kashmir’ post the collapse of the PDP-led government, BJP president Amit Shah said the discrimination against Jammu and Ladakh regions in developmental activities, and killing of soldiers and a popular editor were some of the reasons for his party’s decision to pull out of the alliance in the restive state.

Listing the reasons for pulling out of the PDP led government, Shah said they waited for four years for the balanced development and the restoration of peace but it proved to be a mirage. “A time came when Army jawan Aurangzeb was abducted and killed. An editor was murdered. India is a democracy and any editor has the independence to write anything.. Stones were given in the hands of youth. The attack on army jawans and security personnel increased by the day,” he said.

On the development front, Shah said, Narendra Modi government gave money, around Rs 80,000 crore, and schemes but discrimination continued against Jammu and Ladakh.  “We did send money but it did not trickle down, Schemes were not implemented. Gradually development of Jammu and Ladakh went for a toss. So we thought if it could not happen while being in the government then it is better to oppose it while sitting in the opposition”, he said. The BJP chief accused the Mehbooba Mufti government of creating obstacles in the rehabilitation of migrant Kashmiri Pandits in the Valley. “The BJP-led central government has zero tolerance for terrorism. Security forces should be allowed to carry on their work. I have full faith in our army and security forces. Our enemy is against peace and development and our security forces will foil their conspiracy.”
