Residents on Friday blocked the busy Srinagar-Jammu highway near Wanpoh railway station in Anantnag district of south Kashmir to protest against a braid-chopping case.

The protesters were demanding action against the culprits.

Meanwhile, a non-local thrashed in Qaimoh last night after being accused of being a braid chopper has been admitted to a hospital.

Another person apprehended by locals in Sherpora locality of old town Anantnag last night, according to police, is a drug peddler.

An official identified him as Gowhar Ahmad from Budgam district.

“He was apprehended at Car Plaza KP road along with Spasmo-proxy vom tablets this year and a case stands registered against him at police post General Bus stand Anantnag,” said the official.

“He is also a thief. He was released after three months.”

Nearly two dozen incidents of mysterious hair chopping have been reported from Kashmir, with nearly fifteen incidents from Kulgam and Anantnag districts during past couple of weeks.

Police have formed a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to probe the matter. So far the police and the authorities have been clueless.
